The Vogel Alcove's Parenting Program is open to all parents and guardians whose children attend the Alcove. Classes and services are offered at no cost to parents or referring shelters, and are held on Wednesday evenings. New topics are introduced each series to meet the needs of the group. Classes include:
Beyond Surviving – For women only, topics include: ways to build self-esteem, how to recognize and address depression and anxiety, and what a healthy relationship should look like. This class is especially helpful for women fleeing abusive relationships.
Beginnings – Instructors teach parents basic techniques for appropriate parent/infant interaction designed to promote bonding and attachment.
Parenting Matters – Parents are encouraged to discuss their concerns and use the group to learn new parenting techniques including: early child development, appropriate responses to child behavior, positive discipline techniques, and child safety.
Padres Activos de Hoy – Conducted in Spanish, this culturally-sensitive class assists parents in learning appropriate parenting techniques.
