The 5th annual Dodge for a Cause dodge ball tournament, presented by Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP and benefiting Vogel Alcove, took place on June 22 at the American Airlines Center. Teams from more than two dozen area companies competed in the 2017 event, which was the most successful yet, raising nearly $95,000 for Vogel Alcove.
Dodge for a Cause is a great way for major corporations to get to know Vogel Alcove and raise funds to support our mission. The corporate teams that played this year were: Weil, Ace Cash Express, Blue Star Sports (J. Jones company), Houlihan Lokey, Southwest Airlines, W Hotel, Vinson & Elkins, Maverick Capital, Match.com, Hall Group, Copart, Springbok Energy, AT&T, WFAA, Caddis Healthcare Real Estate, KPMG, ORIX, Kainos Capital, US Trust, CIC Partners (M. Rawlings company), Morgan Stanley, Sewell Automotive, driversselect, Service King, Crow Holdings and Elm Park Capital.
Sewell and KPMG made it to the final round of the tournament, and once again, KPMG prevailed, having now won four of the five Dodge for a Cause tournaments. A new feature of this year’s event was opportunity to make gifts to Vogel Alcove via our “text-to-give” platform. The response was very positive, and we raised about $11,000 in text-to-give donations.
Many thanks to Cary Smelzer for representing the board on the Vogel Alcove team (the Angry Birds). The staff, board and friends of Vogel Alcove did a great job, winning four out of five of their games! And thanks, as always, to our friends at Weil for organizing this wonderful event on our behalf.
